2020 is going to to be the year that I really get my shit together… before I become a mum and my life completely changes!
I’m not talking about ‘new year, new me’. I plan on being the same me, just a slightly more put together version. I don’t want to change who I am because I have finally got myself to a place where I actually love me for me. Instead, I just want to work on a few things that I feel could be slightly better.
2020 Health
Do not mistake this 2020 goal of ‘health’ as a way of saying “lose weight” or “get in shape”, as it so often means.
I’m speaking quite generally when I say health, and weight isn’t even on the list of improvements.
Before I got pregnant, I was going to the gym four or five times a week, one of those with a PT, and attending yoga twice. I was walking to work a lot, eating my five a day, drinking enough water and sleeping well.
Since I got pregnant, and as my pregnancy has gone on, this has changed. In 2020 I want to change this.
I want to get back into the gym again. I don’t want to set myself a strict schedule that I know I will fail at sticking to. Instead, I just want to give myself the aim of going at least once a week, for an hour. I’ll continue to go to yoga twice on top of that, so I know I’m getting at least three hours of exercise a week. If I do more, great.
I want to eat better. For a long, long time, my diet during the first trimester was cheese, pasta, crisps. I want to fall back in love with food again, and eat a better, more balanced diet! Getting back to having my five a day is really a must.
Water has always been my weak point. I struggle to drink the recommended daily amount, but as pregnancy goes on, I know this is more important than ever, so I’m really focusing on this now.
Finally, I want to walk to work more – at least twice a week! Not only will it save money but it’s better for me and better for the environment too.
2020 Wellbeing
Along with making my health a priority in 2020, I also want to boost my wellbeing. I have become a bit of a slob, a bit of a procrastinator. I no longer do as many things that I love, and instead just sit watching mind numbing TV shows I don’t even enjoy that much just because – well, because I’ve become quite lazy really!
My podcast took a back seat once I fell pregnant, so in 2020 I want to make sure I’m recording at least one episode a month. I want to make sure I really stick to releasing a monthly newsletter too, and sending out the weekly emails for Blossoming.
I also want to make sure I have at least one hour away from any kind of screen each day. Each day I spend 8 hours in front of a screen at work, then come home and go on my phone whilst watching TV – I also use my phone for almost my entire commute to work (another good reason to walk!)
My eyes need a break! This will also allow for at least an hour a day of “me time” – be it a bath, an hour to read a book, do some plannering, or go for a walk. I need to have a digital detox!
I am also going to try to stop using my phone before bed/first thing when I wake up, because that can’t be doing me any favours either!

2020 ‘Me time’
In a similar vein to ‘wellbeing’, I want to take more time for me and doing what I love in 2020. You know, my podcast, Blossoming stuff, more about self love and body confidence. I also want to read more – when I was little, I could read a book a day, with ease. In 2019 I don’t think I read one book… really! I want 2020 to be the year I read again. For Christmas, I was given a book, so that’s going to be a good place to start!
I also want to spend more time being creative. I’d also like to spend more time doing genuinely fun things instead of opting to watch TV. Playing the Wii, for example. Playing our fave games like Uno and Scrabble. Going for more day trips at the weekend… it’s all high on my to do list!
I realise that life will be completely different once our baby arrives. My priorities will *obviously* change and whilst I still intend on having time for me, I know it won’t be as easy to achieve. This is why I want to make sure I really make the most of being able to do what I went, when I want now.
Towards the end of the year, the things I want to do will definitely change because I’ll have a new little BFF to do things with! Softplay and nursery here we come…!

Relationship
My relationship with Jonny is great, always has been. Last year, we started going on weekly date nights, without our phones, and this was really good for us. However, towards the end of the year, things got busy! We have everyone’s birthday and Christmas, so date nights stopped due to time and money.
In 2020 we plan on starting our weekly date nights up again (we have already planned the first one next week). No matter what else happens in the week, we will always make time for this. It’s important! More so, now that our time left as a two is limited, and after the baby is born, our relationship will obviously change.
I want to make sure we spend more time doing fun things together in 2020 and less time sat next to each other on our phones! Relationships need nurturing in order to allow them to blossom and grow, so I’m going to make sure we continue to do just that!

2020 Travel
Last year, Jonny and I really caught the travel bug! We travelled almost every month of the year to a variety of places and had the best time!
In 2020 we will be travelling less, for obvious reasons, but I don’t want it to come to a halt completely! We already have two holidays booked for January and February, to Prague and Belfast. We also have a planned (but not booked) trip to Newcastle/Scotland to see family before the baby is born.
Looking forward, we’re already planning our first family holiday in September (eek!!) We’re also hoping for a break away in November for our birthdays.
One thing’s for sure though, I definitely want to explore more of the UK too! I said this last year and didn’t quite manage it so maybe this year.
Advice for travelling with a baby is welcome…

And the rest…
Without falling into a proper category, here are some of my general goals for the rest of the year:
- Pass my driving test
- Write a blog post at least once a week
- Save up a tonne of money for maternity leave and then continue saving for a house, wooh!
- Buy mine and Jonny’s dream car
- Have a safe, happy and positive birth, spending the rest of 2020 being the best mum I can be!
There we go! Not really asking for much, am I haha?!
What are your goals for 2020, if you’ve set them? Let me know!
Love from, Florence Grace

Hey Florence! I hope you achieve your goals in 2020. I also plan on reducing screen time and reading more (physical copies of) books. In fact, I’ve already started. 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I think less screen time is going to be such a big focus of mine this year – I’m glad you’ve already started on your goals!
