Autumn is my favourite time of year – and so it’s only right I create an autumn bucket list so we have plenty of ideas for fun things to see and do this season!
We love having a summer bucket list that allows us to make sure we don’t forget about any of the fun activities we want to do in the sunshine. It really helped us to be intentional with our memory making and made sure we consciously made an effort to have plenty of good quality family time. It even helped us with budgeting, allowing us to really plan ahead for days out!
With that in mind, we decided to create an autumn bucket list! If you’re looking for some day out ideas whilst the weather gets colder, or some autumnal craft ideas you can do at home when it’s just too miserable to get outdoors, you’re in the right place. Below you’ll find our autumn bucket list, as well as a free downloadable bucket list for your own use!
Don’t forget to tag me – @themumbehindthemagic – on socials if you follow along with our bucket list items! Alternatively, you can use my hashtag #MakingItMagic. I’d love to see what you and your family are getting up to this season.

Autumn bucket list – days out
The daylight is fading, the temperature is dropping but there is so much fun to be had! Here’s what we plan on doing over the next couple of months…
- Visit a pumpkin patch and pick our own pumpkins! We love Farmer Paul’s, but there are plenty more patches to choose from – I have a whole list of them in Buckinghamshire and beyond right here.
- Visit the woods and have an autumnal scavenger hunt – get a free downloadable scavenger hunt list here.
- Collect conkers from fallen trees (good for conker painting!)
- Collect fallen pinecones (good for hedgehog crafts – and even Christmas tree crafts for winter!)
- Visit a pick your own farm for seasonal fruits, like apples and blackberries. Or, perhaps there’s some bushes and trees in the wild you can pick from. Have an explore!
- Complete a scarecrow trail – these tend to happen in villages, so find out if there’s one local to you!
- Go to a firework display – write your name in sparklers and toast marshmallows by the bonfire
- Go Trick or Treating dressed in a spooky costume
- Visit a National Trust property – there are so many that are especially beautiful in the Autumn time!

Autumn bucket list – staying at home
- Remember those pinecones you collected? Get crafty with them! Paint them and turn them into hedgehogs with googly eyes, or maybe little trees!
- And you know those conkers you picked? Why not drill a hole through them, put them on some string and have a conker battle!
- The apples you picked? Bake them into a gorgeous apple crumble or apple pie.
- Similarly to the apples, any blackberries you picked? Turn into a crumble!
- Use pinecones, conkers and leaves to make different textures when painting an autumnal picture
- Decorate the house for Halloween
- Make a hedgehog house – there are some great ideas here.
- Bake a loaf of bread. There’s nothing more autumnal than the gorgeous smell of bread baking, am I right?! Better still if you can enjoy this with a bowl of hot soup!
- Make a scarecrow for your own garden
- Make a family creation of pumpkin fingerprints! This is a truly gorgeous creation to keep forever.
- Make bonfire cupcakes
- Have a Halloween tea party with spooky snacks!
- Write a list for all that you’re thankful for and use this to prompt you to show thanks to special people in your life
- Watch some scary films – family friendly ones include Casper the Ghost, Monster House, Ghost Busters and Frankenweenie!

There’s so many ways to make a little extra magic this season!
The weather might not be as lovely as it is in the summer, but there’s still so much fun to be had, and so many ways to add a little bit of extra magic to your day. Whatever your budget, whether you’re staying home or going out and about, why not add some of the above to your own autumn bucket list?
