Love Baskets are a great way to add some extra seasonal magic to Valentine’s Day. You can give Love Baskets to your children on Valentine’s Day as a special gift, or on the 1st February to help with some intentional memory making all month long – it really is up to you. However, when it comes to making a Love Basket for boys, things get a little trickier.
I started making ‘celebration baskets’ in Easter 2021, so this was my first time getting to put together a Love Basket. Valentine’s Day is one of my favourite holidays, and so I was really excited about putting together some special pieces for Jett to enjoy. However, I was disappointed to find that a lot of items for Valentine’s Day were geared towards little girls.
Now I’m by no means saying boys can’t enjoy things that are pink and sparkly and floral and about princesses. They absolutely can, and do. But Jett loves diggers, tractors, planes, dinosaurs. How could I tailor a Love Basket to his personal likes?

What to include in a Love Basket for boys – my picks
It took some hunting around, but I think I’ve found some great items to include in a Love Basket for boys. Of course, all these things can be gifted to girls, too. But if you’re looking for things that aren’t pink or traditionally feminine, here are some ideas…
Love Monster toy – Love Monster merch was an obvious choice, seeing as he’s all about love! I was torn between some plastic figurines or this cuddly Love Monster toy that makes noises and lights up. I opted for the cuddly one because Jett doesn’t really play with figurines yet! This is fine for girls or boys, but makes the perfect addition to a Love Basket for boys.

Guess How Much I Love You gift set – I always like to include a seasonal book in Jett’s celebration baskets! For Valentine’s Day, Guess How Much I Love You seemed the perfect choice. This gift set includes the book and a cuddly Nutbrown Hare, which is so soft and sweet. Jett can make the hare hop about and copy the actions in the book, so it’s a great way to make story time exciting.
Some other great love related books that would be great to include in a Love Basket for boys are:
- The Smed’s and the Smoo’s by Julia Donaldson – a book about two different kinds of species who shouldn’t fall in love, but do
- Prince Henry by Olly Pike – a book about same sex relationships
- Mole’s In Love by David Bedford – a sweet story about finding love when you least expect it

Love You More sweatshirt – I had ordered a personalised top from a small business, but sadly it didn’t turn up. However, this jumper from PatPat was completely neutral but still in keeping with the Valentine’s theme, making it the perfect addition to a Love Basket for boys. It’s available in other colours too; pink, blue and white.

Love Bug – This love bug from From Erin and Orla With Love is so sweet, and can be hung up as decor in his room or even as a Christmas Decoration (it’s red, gold and sparkly – why not?!) This made a really nice ‘filler’ item that added a bit of a personal touch to the basket.

Heart wand – I always include a personalised wand from Aubrey and I in my celebration baskets. Jett has so much fun bopping things (usually my head) with the wands and I just think the designs are so gorgeous, they add a real special touch to any celebration basket. The fact you can order so many colour and design variations means this is a great option to include in your Love Basket for boys.

Mini mailbox – My favourite item in the Love Basket is this American-style mini mailbox. When I found it on Etsy, I knew I had to have it – Jett loves diggers, and for any other little boy, this would be so cute for a Love Basket! I have used it as a sort of advent calendar, filling it with small gifts each day in the run up to Valentine’s. As he gets older, I’ll leave him notes rather than toys, and maybe some chocolate too!

Valentine’s Card – I actually included two! Ine for me to give to Jett, and one for Jett to give to his Dad. They were ‘boyish’ themes, rockets and robots. We are big on space-themed items in this house so these were perfect.

Other ideas
I had so many other ideas for Love Baskets for boys that I didn’t include in my own basket but that you definitely could. If you’re trying to put together a Love Basket for boys, why not include some of the following?
- Red trucks or cars
- Cuddly kitsch Valentine’s toys, usually found in supermarkets or places like The Card Factory. I love this Cuddle Monster!
- Valentine’s chocolates or sweets – you can’t go wrong with these, and they’re definitely not gender specific. Chuck in some love hearts, Haribo heart throbs or pink pretzels!
- Personalised cookies or cupcakes
- A Valentine’s balloon
- A heart shaped straw, or new red sippy cup
- Socks! Red and white striped, heart print, cheesy made-for-the-holiday socks
So there you go – plenty of ideas to work with if you’ve got a special little boy in your life that you want to make a Love Basket for!
Do you make Love Baskets? I’d love to know what you put in them! If not, why not bookmark this post and use it as inspiration for Valentine’s Day next year?
